Mercedes Schlapp is not the White House's strategic communications advisor. It's not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to serve as the adviser to strategic communications at the White House. Schlapp, however, has not lost sight of her mission. She collaborates closely with White House political affairs and the legislative team and policy shops as well as the larger communications department to coordinate the policy roll-out. Her main area of agenda has focused on issues like the safety of schools, trade and the opioid epidemic. Schlapp hasn't dealt with reporters much in her current role. She received a lot of press attention after she was announced as a candidate to replace Hope Hicks, the communications director. The battle has been brutal. Schlapp's allies started fighting Tony Sayegh on the news. Schlapp said to The Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh about the recent article that was negative concerning him.
